At Jaala Hotel, the courtyard area does not end at the boundary of the plot, but our customers can take advantage of many of the village’s activities within walking distance without having to waste energy driving a car.

Next door

For exploring, spending time and being active

  • Cross the village road and you enter the 17th century landscape. The Liikasenmäki museum area is right next door. Old, charming buildings await you. You can also arrange a meal with your group in an old hut setting. In the summer you can enjoy numerous theatre performances. The environment is a diverse and pleasant playground for children. In the winter, there is a safe slide and on New Year’s Eve, a uniquely spectacular fireworks display.
  • 145 year old unique wooden church in Jaala. Sunday services and a roadside church open in the summer. Excellent and popular place also as a wedding church. Nice soft acoustics and old beautiful organ.
  • A short 9-hole disc golf course next to the hotel in the Liikasenmäki courtyard. A just new full 18-hole disc golf course a few hundred meters away.
  • A short walk away is a birdwatching tower on the edge of the Pyhäjärvi wetland area, from where you can also observe birds from afar. In early summer, the black-necked heron gives amazing concerts along the wide shore area.
  • The Jaala fields are also home to many birds. In spring and autumn, thousands of geese, cranes and swans rest in the fields on their migration journey. The chirping of the tufted duck can be heard everywhere.
  • In winter, you can access the ski trails directly from the hotel yard. There are trails for both calm skiing on flat ground in the nearby fields and more demanding hilly skiing on the Ruhmaanharju hill. (1-2 km away)
  • You can also go jogging and walking directly from the yard. There is a lighted walking track on the ridge Ruhmaanharju.
  • A great skateboard ramp for children, “Höntsäramppi”, and an asphalt yard suitable for many activities are nearby in the parking lot of the former store.
  • A playground for children can be found a few minutes’ walk away. (300 m from hotel)

The Jaala school yard offers many activity opportunities for young and old alike. (500 m from hotel):

  • Football: an artificial turf fenced ball field
  • many exercise stands – for climbing, jumping, balancing or chin-ups
  • Jaala ball hall and gym. You can organize even a larger fitness event there.
  • In winter, there is an ice skating rink, where you can play hockey. As a peaceful place, it is also suitable for learning to skate and for more leisurely skating.
  • The MOBO orienteering course also starts from Jaala School and heads towards the nearby Ruhmaanharju Ridge. It is an easy way to practice the basics of orienteering.
  • Horse stables within walking distance. A place for children to explore and also the opportunity to ride ponies and horses. (500 m from hotel)
  • A uniquely clean beach on the shore of Iso Ruhmaa for swiming in summer. (1 km from hotel)
  • Lake Pyhäjärvi offers opportunities for canoeing, boating, fishing and in winter time skiing, kick sledding and ice skating.

Services at the Jaala village

  • Grocery store S-Market offers a full range of products. Although Jaala is a fairly small village, the number of residents multiplies in the summer due to the influx of summer residents. That’s why the store’s selection is more extensive than normally in small villages
  • The cozy CuppoCelle café is opposite the S-Market store.
